If A Suspect Is Arrested By The Police And Beaten Up In Jail, What Can Be Done

Article 22(2) of the constitution ensures that any person who is arrested shall not be detained in custody without being informed as soon as may be, of the grounds for such arrest nor shall he be denied the right to consult, and to be defended by a legal practitioner of his choice. Moreover, apart from the rights of arrested persons guaranteed under the Indian Constitution, section 164 of CrPc, assures the accused from any sort of apprehended torture or pressure from such extraneous agents , as the police or the like, in case he declines to make a confession statement. This is done to ensure that on no grounds, the accused is being put to threat of torture or pressure, as he too has rights protected under the Constitution.
